Starting Salaries (base pay): 

Certified: $64,115
Uncertified: $61,025

Hiring Process and Information

  1. Job Application - Complete and submit the job application to the HPD Recruitment Team. (email or mail) Download Job Application 
  2. Written Exam and Physical Agility Test - Schedule varies pending current testing cycles. HPD will contact candidate to schedule after application is processed.  (Current TN POST certified officers typically do not have to complete this step.) 
  3. Personal History Statement/Intensive Background Check - Candidates who pass both the written exam and physical assessment will submit the personal history statement to begin the background check process. This is standard for all police officer applicants.

  4. Hiring - Applicants who successfully pass steps 1 - 3 will be considered for hire.

Lateral Transfer Information (POST Certified)

Officers is who are already POST certified at another agency may be eligible for a $2,000 sign-on bonus upon successful completion of a probationary period which is generally one (1) year of continuous fulltime employment.   

Candidates who have held or currently hold a TN POST Certification may receive waivers for the written exam and physical agility testing requirement and will not have to go through the academy. 

Candidates who are POST Certification from another state will be required to attend the 3-week Transition School. 

Inactive POST certifications: 

  • If you were TN POST Certified but have been inactive for 3 years or less, Hendersonville Police Department can get you re-instated if hired.  
  • If you were POST Certified (TN or other state) but have been inactive for 3-7 years, you must attend a 3-week Transition School if hired.
  • If your POST Certification (TN or other state) has been inactive for 7+ years, you must re-attend the Academy if hired.  

Anyone who is hired, regardless of prior experience, must complete the HPD in-house recruit training.
