Effective June 13, 2017, plan reviews and inspections are conducted using the 2018 edition of the National Fire Protection Association Life Safety Code 101 and the 2018 edition of the International Fire Code including Appendices B, C, and D including Local Amendments. These codes and standards apply to both new and existing buildings and occupancies. There is no such definition of "grandfathering" in the fire or life safety codes; "grandfathering" in this is a zoning term.
We recommend design professionals, contractors, property owners/managers, and business owners familiarize themselves with the changes to the codes related to new construction as well as existing buildings and spaces that each code may address.
