Public Notice

Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) funds are made available to provide resources to assist states, tribal governments, territories and local communities in their efforts to reduce or eliminate the risk of repetitive flood damage to buildings and structures insurable under the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) as authorized by the National Flood Insurance Act of 1968, as amended. This funding is implemented under the authority of the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act, 42 U.S.C. §§ 5121-5207.

PROPOSED WORK AND PURPOSE: The City of Hendersonville proposes to purchase (at fair market) and remove seven (7) residential structures located in the Drakes Creek Right Bank Tributary No. 2 floodplain and floodway in Hendersonville, TN. The properties have all suffered damage from previous flood events. By pursuing this course of action, the property owners will find relief from any future flood damage and there will be no future damage claims to burden the NFIP. Also, the emergency response agencies of the City of Hendersonville and Sumner County will not be as taxed during and after a flood event affecting the designated area. The land where the buyout occurs will become restricted-use public land.

LOCATION OF PROPOSED WORK: The project includes the acquisition and demolition of seven (7) parcels of property located on Creekside Court (3) and Southburn Drive (4) in the Drakes Creek Right Bank Tributary No. 2 floodplain and floodway. All properties are located in the City of Hendersonville, TN 37075.

PUBLIC COMMENTS: Any individual, group, or agency disagreeing with the proposed projects and is wishing to comment on these projects may submit written comments to the City of Hendersonville, contact information below. All comments received by April 26, 2020 will be reviewed by the City of Hendersonville and forwarded on to the State and FEMA.
