STATE OF EMERGENCY EXTENDED - MARCH 27, 2020

 Extended Declaration

From the Office of the Mayor:

Over the past several days city staff, aldermen, and I have made several decisions to protect our community. Today I added declaring a state of emergency. The County Mayor took the same action this afternoon.

This decision is somewhat semantic, allowing the city to take advantage of state and federal relief later. I will not immediately be asking for greater authority under the declaration. I will continue to make decisions that are within my regular duties as mayor. Our interim city administrator and I communicate almost constantly. We will continue to do that.

The two biggest changes being made today are two requests of particular businesses.

First, I am asking that restaurants close their dining rooms. They need to convert to carry-out, curbside, and delivery service.

Second, I am encouraging gyms, bowling alleys, and kid play places to close. Working with medical staff, we will help the operators of those businesses understand the risks they present unlike other businesses.

We cannot enforce orders to close. I hope those business owners will cooperate.

We might need additional actions over the next several days.

Pulling together with faith in God, we will make if through this.

Thank you.
Jamie Clary
