Hendersonville, Tenn. (June 13, 2019) – The City of Hendersonville is the first Middle Tennessee community to partner with Nashville-based organization TERRA on the launch of a consumer e-Waste recycling program. The program will drive awareness about the environmental and health effects of electronic waste, allow residents to sustainably recycle electronics, and provide data destruction services.

The benefit for the City will be lower costs due to less material being sent to landfills. The City is charged a tipping fee based on the weight of trash going to landfills.

“Hendersonville is the first adopter of this simple, secure and sustainable consumer program designed to tackle our country’s growing e-Waste crisis,” said Steven Napoli, TERRA founder. “We are excited to partner with the city and to offer a simple way for residents to properly dispose of used electronics through TERRA’s certified recycling partners.”

Electronic waste, or e-Waste, is comprised of discarded electrical or electronic devices, including used electronics, destined for reuse, resale, salvage, recycling or disposal. While e-Waste represents just 2% of America’s trash in landfills, it reportedly accounts for 70% of the toxins entering the waste stream, and when improperly disposed of, releases toxic compounds contaminating the air, soil, and water.

“As a community, we are committed to sustainability,” said Rod Kirk, Hendersonville economic development director. “We recognize the growing impact of electronic waste across the world as well as within our own community. We are proud to take this first step in raising awareness about this issue and offer resources to our residents for properly recycling electronics.”

The program, known as Done with IT (, is available to all residents of the 7 county Middle Tennessee region. However, as a partner, Hendersonville residents are eligible to use a promo code for discounted recycling services at

“TERRA looks forward to partnering with more Middle Tennessee communities as soon as possible to increase awareness of this growing threat.”, Napoli added.

Hendersonville is the first adopter and on the leading edge of this simple, secure and sustainable consumer program to begin to tackle our country’s growing e-Waste crisis.
